France boasts one of the most advanced rail networks in Europe.
The state-run railway service known as the Société Nationale des
Chemins de Fer (SNCF for short) includes high speed trains (TGVs)
which link Paris with Marseille and Paris with Lyon in under three
hours. These clean and well equipped TGVs travel at speeds up
to 300km/hr reaching their final destination almost always on
time.
The
main line express trains, sometimes referred to as a corail or
a TER are also top-notch compared to their European counterparts.
Most cities in France are easily accessible.
However, if you do wish to head for a remote spot, the SNCF (also
a bus operator) will fill in the gaps where railway lines don't
exist. So, for cost-effective, easy and enjoyable travel try getting
about by rail - you'll be able to take in much more than by any
other mode of transport!
