Nantes tourist information

where to go - what to see - what to do

Nantes used to be the capital of Brittany and still remains to a large extent Breton in its customs and traditions today.  However, due to its association with Henri IV and the Plantagenets Nantes was also linked to the Loire river establishing itself as the capital of the Pays de la Loire region.

Nantes is a fascinating city which mixes high-tech industry and modern tower blocks with Art Nouveau squares, canals and a lively medieval centre.  Some of the best medieval buildings are situated in the Place du Change and Place St-Croix where you'll find chic bars and restaurants.

The Jardin des Plantes is of noteworthy praise with beautiful flower-beds, fountains and duck ponds that date back to the 19th century.  There is also a children's playground to keep younger family members amused.
