where to go - what to see - what to doBlois is situated right in the heart of some of the Loire's finest chateaux including Chambord, Cheverny and Chaumont. However, of fascination itself is Chateau de Blois which was the main royal residence until Henri IV moved the court back to Paris. Architectural buffs will love it as it has four distinct styles; medieval, Gothic, Renaissance and Classical.
The town of Blois has retained much of this early royal splendour with historic facades fronting what used to be the courtier's mansions especially in the hilly, pedestrianised medieval quarter around Place Vauvert. Place Louis XII is home to Blois' noteworthy market and surrounded by half-timbered houses and balconies all adding to the charm of this beguiling town.
