Yonne tourist information
where to go - what to see - what to do
Just one hour from Paris, the Yonne is a rich tapestry of culture, history, gastronomy and beautiful countryside.
Some of the world's most prestigious wines are produced here including 'Borgogne' and 'Chablis' - best sampled with local Burgundy truffles or Charolais beef.
The culinary heritage should not detract from Yonne's Renaissance chateau at Tanley, the Cistercian abbey at Potigny or the picturesque medieval villages with their half-timbered houses.
Outdoors try white-water rafting in the Morvan forest or boat cruises on the Nivernais canals.
- Vezelay - take a tour of the abbey church, Basilique Ste-Madeleine, and follow in the footsteps of medieval pilgrims.
- La Puissaye - visit the 17th century chateau that pays homage to St-Sauveurs literary genius, Colette.
- Tanlay - Chateau de Tanlay is quite simply French Renaissance architecture at its best!
- Wine tasting - La Chablisienne is one of the largest wine producers and offers free tasting all year round!
