where to go - what to see - what to doBastia is a busy and colourful port and the economic capital of Haute-Corse. The Genoese government ruled from Bastia in the 15th century which was when the 'bastiglia' or fortress was built.
A stroll around the old port with its 19th century Italian style buildings will remind you that you are on a Mediterranean island. The Place St-Nicolas is the central hub with ferries coming and going to the mainland and Italy.
If you can drag yourself away from Bastia's many churches, take a trip to Cap Corse - the beautiful peninsula that stretches north of Bastia.
