where to go - what to see - what to doMacon lies at the southern tip of Burgundy between Beaune & Lyon and is a great base if you are looking to sample some of the Macon-Beaujolais fine wines including the extremely popular Pouilly-Fuisse - one of our favourites!
However, there is more to Macon than just great wine. The lively town is elegantly perched on the banks of the Saone, bordered by distinctive, colourful houses that hide a fascinating historical centre. The historical centre of Macon comes alive between June and August with a street festival called 'L'ete Frappe Plus', in which concerts and plays of all shapes and sizes can be enjoyed for free. Don't forget to check out the Maison de Bois in the historic centre which was built in the 15th-century and is adorned with strange looking carvings.
Just outside of Macon, the Roche de Solutre is a distinctive landmark (a rock that seems to grow out of the Pouilly-Fuisse vineyard). Here you'll find remains from the Stone Age including flints, bones and tools.
